We were pretty damn good with our picks last week and cashed nicely in everything we entered. And we have a strange feeling that many of the low owned guys we took will be the higher owned plays this week, so we’re gonna go against them. Why? Because this event isn’t the most predictable and on weeks like this, we want to be against the grain a tad. Now for the course cut and paste.

The Old White Course. measures at 7,274 yards and is only a Par 70. When looking for stats that correlate here, uhhhhhhh, well, it’s tough. Obviously Par 4 Scoring helps as it is a Par 70. Like every week, being a solid putter helps a lot. But what is the type of golfer we’re looking for?

If you look into the stats at the players that seem to do well here, you’ll notice as a whole, they are Above Average in: Strokes Gained Tee To Green, All Around Ranking, Putting (Even Ted Potter Jr. was ranked 50th one year), Par 4 Scoring, and Birdie %.

The course doesn’t play very difficult, so finding a player in hot form will trump everything in our opinion. All tournaments come down to a putting contest, but on a course where the average GIR for the week is between 69%-70%, which means everyone is getting to the greens in two quite easily, dropping your putts on a consistent basis becomes an even bigger deal. Also, when everyone is hitting the greens in two, to make putts, it’s much easier if your proximity to the hole is much closer than others. So we will be paying close attention to those types of players as well this week.

Now for the breakdown.

Tony Finau 100% – He has to win at some point and this is a nice weak field to do it in. He’s been 7th and 13th at this event but he’s at a whole new level of game now. He’s the most expensive guy but we took him everywhere anyway.

James Hahn 100% – He’s a very streaky player, but when he’s on, he can win. It looks like he’s getting out of a 5 week missed cut funk with making his last three. He’s made 3 of his 4 Greenbrier cuts with a 20th and 6th in his last two. He’s a solid SGTG player who’s 80th on tour in birdie %, but in this field he’d rank somewhere around 30th. we’ll take all of him at this cheap price.

Corey Conners 100% – He’s been a cut maker with only 1 top ten. Still, he makes cuts due to his SGTG. His putter stinks but we think this week will be about having tons of opportunities. He ranks 99th in birdie % but in comparison to this field, that outs him somewhere around 45th to 50th, which makes him top 33%. At 7k, he’s on the squad.

David Lingmerth 75% – He’s never missed a cut at this tourney with two top tens in his bag.In his last 4 weeks on tour, he’s made 3 of those cuts and it finally seems like he’s finding his old legs back. We loved his price and we think he can pop here.

Keegan Bradley 75% – He’s never missed the cut at this event and has a high of 4th. His tee to green game is impeccable and we know that one of these weeks he will actually drain a few more putts than usual. He makes cuts and he’s on the squad.

Andrew Putnam 50% – Besides the Wells Fargo MDF, this guy has been on a really nice streak since late March. He’s solid in SGTG, Birdie %, and on Par 4’s.
