Daily Fantasy Golf Picks Strategy | British Open Championship 2018 | PGA
Just to point out right now, our below picks will change a tiny bit when Eddie Pepperell gets added to the player pool. We wanted him before his top finish this past week as he’s a pure links specialist in our mind. So when he gets added, he’ll get at least one representation unless his price is too high. Now for the preview cut and paste.
The Carnoustie Golf Links is a 7,402 yard, par 71 test of golf. There’s pot bunkers galore, fescue, wind, and the toughest final stretch of holes in golf. You will most likely see very few drivers on the tee.
Phil Mickelson had this to say about his club selection this week. “I’m either going to carry a driver or that hot 3-wood, but there’s only two or three holes – there’s actually only two holes I plan on using it, both par 5s. I have a low 1-iron that I’ve been putting in the bag and … it’s very low. Gets on the ground quick. I’ll hit that on probably the last ten holes, almost every hole.”
Ball control will be a big part of our player selection this week as hitting these stingers and punch shots that run up to the greens are the way to go. Finding the best ball strikers in the game, that are in form, will be our strategy. We’ll also be looking at players that have played well at the Alfred Dunhill Links, as it’s partially played at Carnoustie.
Now for the breakdown.
*UPDATED AS OF 9:15 AM ON JULY 18TH
Tommy Fleetwood 100% – His price is right and even though his Open record hasn’t been great in his history, he’s played quite well at the Alfred Dunhill Links over the past 6 years. A realistic winner.
Branden Grace 100% – We like him at tournaments with difficult scoring and we think he gets that this week. He’s a solid ball striker and his price is perfect for us. If people can score, then this pick will suck. He’s never missed an Open cut with a high of 6th last year.
ADDED Zach Johnson 100%
INCREASED Paul Casey 80% – He’s one of the best ball strikers around and never seems to play poorly these days. He’s got a solid Open record and was 27th at Carnoustie in 2007.
INCREASED Sergio Garcia 80% – He blew it at Carnoustie in 2007 and came in 2nd. We love the redemption plot this time around. Finally playing well again.
LOWERED Tony Finau 40% – He was dirt cheap for a guy we can see winning here. His ball striking stats are fantastic and he’s top 10’d both majors already this year. He’s made both open cuts and we’re gonna ride or die him at these prices.
ADDED Keegan Bradley 40%
LOWERED Tyrell Hatton
LOWERED Andy Sullivan
ADDED Eddie Pepperell
REMOVED Xander Schaufele
