We’re happy to be back in America for this weeks golf. We finally have a decent field in a full cut event. We’re still not going to play lots this week as it still feels like off season to us and we just want the stress break. So we’re playing for peanuts and only a couple of entries. Here’s our course cut and paste preview.
The Par-71, 7,223 yard TPC Summerlin course was designed by Bobby Weed and player consultant Fuzzy Zoeller, TPC Summerlin has been honored by Golf Digest as one of “America’s Best” golf courses, and the course ranks as one of the “Top 100 Modern Golf Courses in the United States”. Amazing riveting info right there, I know! So what you should first take note on? The thin air. This course plays way shorter than the written distance. Guys that usually hit 280 from the tee, hit it 300 and so on. Another thing about this course, you must shoot a minimum of 5 under every day to win here. It’s birdie central. So is putting needed? Of course you should always want guys to make putts, but in this tournament, the greens in regulation for even the worst golfers are very high. This week, it’s a numbers game and all about opportunity. You can see this by who played well here in the past. Of the players in this weeks field that have played 3 or more times with solid records, we have: Russell Knox, Jason Bohn, Kevin Streelman, John Huh, Spencer Levin, Webb Simpson, Carl Pettersson, Brendan Steele, George Mcneil, Kevin Na, Nick Watney, Ryan Moore and Davis Love 3. When you look at this list, you see solid tee to green players, Huh may be an exception, but these guys are known for getting there in two and not being great putters. They can succeed here because of the sheer volume of birdie putts they get on this course. So besides form, we’ll be concerning ourselves with these types of players this week.
Also, an FYI, Kevin Na, Ryan Moore and NIck Watney all call Nevada home. Na and Moore have won here before and Watney has finished 2nd.
We’re not going to go into any more stats this week. History here tells us what kind of guy we’re looking for. They just need to make their putts, but in this case, they don’t have to make them all.
Now for the breakdown.
Patrick Cantlay 100% – He’s the best value on the board and he’s due for a win. If I was to make 100 tickets, he’d be on all of them.
Luke List 100% – He’s on a roll right now and coming to a course that’s all about hitting greens and opportunities. This is right in his wheel house.
Kevin Streelman 100% – He has a solid course history at this course and he’s also playing solid golf lately. I kinda think this is where he screws you, but I’m going all in on this veteran.
Ben Silverman 100% – He’s cheap and he’s playing very good golf from the web.com and now on the regular PGA tour. He’s a sentimental Canadian pick kinda too. Hoping he stays hot.
