Daily Fantasy Golf Picks Strategy | PGA Safeway Open 2018 | Draftkings

Sorry for the lateness of this strategy article for the Safeway Open 2018. The field isn’t as good as last year. In fact, it isn’t even close. We think you’ll be seeing a wild winning entry in all your DFS pools this week. We’re going to be going top heavy salary wise for the most part and then filling the rest in with fliers. Here’s the shitty cut and paste preview for you.

It’s week 1, a clean slate of sorts for you DFS guys out there. It’s only the fourth time they’ve played at the Silverado Country Club in Napa, California.  Silverado is a beautiful, 7,166 yard, par 72. It’s short, tree lined, with strategic bunkers, big greens and a bit of water. So stay dry my friends.

We’ve only had four years of stats, so it’s a small sample size. The same stats may not hold true this year, but we’re throwing it out there anyway. We think you can be successful here without hitting fairways, but you just need to avoid the trouble. It just seems like most players are able to hit the greens at a very high rate from wherever they were. This then comes down to iron play, and knocking it close to the pin. Due to the length of the course, you were getting many players hitting from 125-150 yards, however, the biggest difference maker is play from 175-200 yards out. So we’ll be focusing on those guys this week. Short players can do well here. Length is not an issue this week. Also, these greens are Poa Annua and we will be looking for those that putt well on them.

So to summarize what we’re looking for. Solid approach players from 175 yards plus, as 9 of the 18 shots to the greens will come from these distances, with 4 – 6 shots from 200 yards plus. The remaining shots to the green will be predominantly wedges, so try and find  players who can do both. Not an easy task. Also, we like players that can putt on Poa Annoa greens, so give them a bump.

Now for the breakdown.

Emiliano Grillo 100% – Former champion. Hits it well from 175 plus. Seven top 10’s last year. He’s playing well coming into a place that suits his game.

Patrick Cantlay 50% – The best player in this field and we felt we needed some. Since it’s a weak field, we went with a guy we trusted.

Chez Reavie 50% – Makes cuts here and we just hope he picks this week to pop.

Johnson Wagner 50% – He quietly made 16/20 cuts last year but didn’t have a top 10. He hits it well from 175 plus and he’s coming in playing well. We hope he’s low owned and he pops.

Nick Watney 50% – Watney made 20/25 cuts last year and has seemed to turn the corner. We expect him to take another step back into relevancy this year and this course might be perfect for him. He hits it well from 175 plus too.

Tom Hoge 50% – He’s hit or miss but we can’t ignore his iron game at a place like this…..and he’s super cheap.

Danny Lee 50% – He’s playing well again and he’s super cheap. He has the tools we like and wanted to be on this train.

Harold Varner 50% – We just think he’s going to break through very soon. His momentum is building.

******** Did you notice that we didn’t take any good putters? It’s because we think Poa Greens make good putters bad and bad putters won’t be at such a disadvantage if everyone is missing putts.
