The Canadian Open is upon us and the weather forecast keeps changing. Will it even rain at all? Who knows at the moment, but lets just enjoy our time at a National Open and bask in the glory of the sun as we’re writing this from the practice rounds today. Before we continue, lets get to the course preview cut and paste.

Glen Abbey, one of the many homes for the RBC Canadian Open. A Par 72, 7253 Yard test of golfer skill, that was played in 2017, 2016, 2015, 2013, 2009, 2008 and 2004. Over the years, you’ll notice a bunch of trends. The first, Total Driving matters. When players like Mark Hensby, DJ Brigman, Chez Reavie, Billy Mayfair, Scott Mccarron, Steve Marino, Nicholas Thompson, Briny Baird, Bob Estes, Jason Bohn, Jason Dufner, Mark Calcavecchia, Scott Verplank, Jhonny Vegas,  and many more, all start having the same stat in common, you take notice. Scores have fluctuated greatly over the years, but the one dominant constant? You must score on the Par 5’s. There are some anomalies, like Snedeker’s win, but your Par 5 score usually makes up most of your total score at this course. So finding those Par 5 scorers will go a long way. Also, SGTG players are guys you should target as putting doesn’t seem to matter as much here compared to opportunities to make birdies. If you hit the greens in two, you should be okay. Keep your eye out for Birdie or better % guys too. And as usual, try and take guys with form or look like they’re rounding into form.

Now for the breakdown.

THE CORE

Tony Finau 100% – We’re going to take him until he wins. He was 5th here last year and his price is a value to us. He’ll be around on the final day and we hope he finally gets the win he deserves. This course fits him.

JJ Spaun 100% – He seems to be progressing over the last few weeks and we’re going to jump on him at this price. Solid SGTG player who makes birdies too. His record here isn’t eye popping but his price is cheap, so we’ll take the chance and hope he’s low owned.

Harold Varner 100% – We think he’ll be the opposite of low owned this week. He’s coming in hot after taking a very long time to refind his game. He was 23rd here last year and we’ll take the cheap plunge.

WAVE 2

Joaquin Niemann 50% – We’re going to take him as a nice risk reward and cross our fingers. A 19 year old phenom in the making?

Bubba Watson 50% – A big fan of this golf course. He’s back to playing well at the places that suit his eye. Here’s one of those spots.

Byeong Hun An 50% – An is always forgotten about, but he’s a consistent type of guy we’re looking for. He wil hit the greens in two and he has a solid birdie percentage too. We know he can win on tour and was so close at the Memorial. He can pop at any time and we hope it’s this week.

Chris Kirk 50% – He makes birdies and he’s got a solid SGTG ranking too. Playing very consistent golf this year and has been 14th here in 2016. We loved his price and he makes the team.

Charley Hoffman 50% – He been showing some life for the last four tourneys he’s been in. He could have won this last year and we’re sure he’s still thinking about it. We’ll take him at his value price.
