Do we want Tiger Woods to win this week? Of course. Will we be betting on that outcome? Not at this price we won’t.  We’re coming off a very solid week and hoping to push it further and we’re just going to do our best and find value where we can. Now for the cut and paste of our shitty preview.

This tournament is played over 2 courses, Torrey Pines North and Torrey Pines South.

  • Torrey Pines (South) is a 7,698 par-72 layout featuring four par 5s and four par 3s.
  • Torrey Pines (North) is a 7,052 par-72 layout featuring four par 5s and four par 3s.

Of these two courses, Torrey Pines South is the only course played on Saturday and Sunday. As you can see above, it’s the much longer of the two courses, so it is a must that a player take advantage on the short North course to make the weekend. This one of those tournaments where everyone will be missing fairways, so those long guys will be on the menu. We will have a healthy dose. We’ll also be looking for players that hit greens from the rough too. These courses have poa annua greens and get bumpier throughout the day. This means, no putt is safe, no matter how far you are away from the hole. Some players putt much better on these greens so keep that in mind.

So for the purposes of this picks preview for the Farmers Insurance Open 2018, we are going to look for players that fit into the TOP 60 of all these categories: All Around Game, GIR from OTF/Proximity, Par 5 Scoring, Poa Annua Putting Stats, and Driving Distance.

Now for the breakdown.

THE CORE

Jon Rahm 100% – He’s on fire right now and we think he’s a good bet to keep it going as he won this tourney last year too. He may be the most expensive guy in the field but we can still make good teams with him so he’s the leader of our pack.

Charley Hoffman 100% – He’s just way too cheap. We don’t know what his game is like coming in here but he’s a west coast guy and he plays the type of game we’re looking for. He has two top 7’s here in 9 tries. We’ll take it!

Kyle Stanley 100% – He showed a nice 10th place last week and he’s been a runner up at this event before too. He’s refound his consistency this last year and we like him to make the cut with upside. Besides Hoffman, he was a very nice value to us and he’s on every squad.

Brendan Steele 75% – Besides 2012, he just makes cuts at this tournament. He’s coming off a 20th place so we’re pretty confident in his cut making ability with upside here.

Jhonny Vegas 75% – He’s made 5 of 6 cuts at this course, with a high of third. For his inconsistent play over the years, this may be one of the best places to play him with such a solid history. He’s playing well so far in 2018 and we are striking while his irons are hot.

WAVE 2

Lucas Glover 50% – He’s super cheap for a guy that’s been pretty consistent over the last year. When you look at his history over the course, you’ll notice two top 10’s from 2009 and 2010. This means he can do it here again. A very nice value.

Tony Finau 50% – He’s got the game to win here. Has done nothing but make cuts in his three attempts here with a high of 4th last year. He’s been playing very high level golf over the last year and we’re sticking with him.

THE SINGLES

Xander Schauffele

Bud Cauley
