Daily Fantasy Golf Picks Preview | WGC PGA Mexico Championship 2018

Dustin Johnson won this tourney last year and it was also the debut of this course for the PGA Tour. Could we make any heads or tails on what type of players had the advantage here? Nope! Ut’s a small sample size of one year and the best players in the world finished near the top. So yeah, good luck! What we do know is below though.

The altitude is a big deal this course. It’s ridiculously high. How high? How about 7382 feet above sea level. To put that in perspective, TPC Summerlin in Las Vegas is only 2000 feet above Sea Level and the ball flies there. And then in Denver, at the 2014 BMW Championship at Cherry Hills, it was 5280 feet above sea level. So yeah, this is fucking high. On the European Tour, the European Masters is played at Crans-Sur-Sierre Golf Club, which resides in the Swiss Alps at approximately 4922 feet above sea level.

With all that in mind now, the host course for this years WGC Championship is Club de Golf Chapultepec with a listed yardage of 7330 yards. However, that yardage will play more like 6450-6500. Club de Golf Chapultepec uses kiyuyu grass on the fairways & rough and a combination of poa/bent on the greens. Make sure to keep an eye on those west coast loving golfers who play better on these types of grass.

Obviously, the biggest thing this week will be the altitude and how players adjust to figuring out their distances. Those that have played well in altitude seem like the safe plays. However, everyone got to play this last year and knows the deal now. The cream really seemed to rise to the top last year besides a couple of guys.

That’s it for this week. Good luck.
